Do you need new tyres?

The legal minimum tread depth for cars in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, all the way round. Most experts recommend replacing tyres well before that, as grip in the wet drops noticeably as tread wears down. Get your tyres checked if you notice:

• Tread close to the wear indicators in the grooves
• Cuts, cracks or bulges in the sidewall
• Uneven wear on one edge, which can mean your wheel alignment is out
• Vibration through the steering wheel at speed, which may need wheel balancing
• A tyre that keeps losing pressure, which could be a slow puncture
