Fred Henderson has been serving drivers from across the Durham area since 1973. Fred Henderson himself founded the business with a simple idea: look after people properly and be honest about what their car needs; the rest takes care of itself. More than 50 years later, that’s still exactly how we operate.

We’re a family business – and that’s not just a phrase. It shapes how we hire, how we work, and how we treat the people who bring their cars to us. Our team of around 16 people genuinely care about getting things right, and many of our customers have been coming to us for years, some for decades.

What to expect when you visit

Walking into Fred Henderson doesn’t feel like walking into a typical garage. Our reception is spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee on hand, a customer toilet, and 18 parking bays on site. We’re also on a main bus route if you’d prefer to leave your car with us and head into Durham.

If you need to get on with your day, we have two courtesy cars available, so being without your vehicle doesn’t have to mean being stuck.

Straight talking, every time

We know garages don’t always have the best reputation for transparency. We’ve spent 50 years trying to change that. When your car needs work, we’ll tell you what it is, what it costs, and why – clearly and without the jargon. If something doesn’t need doing, we’ll say so.

We work on all makes and models, including electric and hybrid vehicles, and we’re fully equipped to handle everything from routine servicing and MOTs to more complex mechanical work. Whatever you bring to us, you’ll get the same honest, attentive service.
